Why Wash Durability Matters
For hook and loop fasteners used in washable products — garments, medical devices, sports equipment — wash durability directly impacts product lifespan and customer satisfaction.
Industry Test Standards
ISO 6330 (Domestic Washing)
The primary standard for textile wash testing:
- Temperature options: 30°C, 40°C, 60°C, 70°C, 95°C
- Machine type: Front-loading (Type A) or top-loading (Type B)
- Load: 2kg ± 0.1kg
- Detergent: ECE reference detergent
AATCC 135 (American Standard)
Used primarily in North American markets:
- Temperature: 27°C, 41°C, 49°C, 60°C
- Agitation: Normal, permanent press, delicate
- Spin speed: High, medium, low
What to Measure After Washing
After each wash cycle, measure:
1. Peel strength (N/cm) — should retain ≥80% of initial value
2. Shear strength (N/cm²) — should retain ≥80% of initial value
3. Hook density — visual inspection for hook deformation
4. Loop pile height — measure with calibrated gauge
5. Color fastness — ISO 105-C06 rating ≥4
